Conway resides in the coastal town of Encinitas, CA, with his marine biologist wife, Michelle, and their boys Maximillian and Jackson.

About Greg

A jack of all trades, Greg Stutzer has worked as a fishing guide, marine biologist, lifeguard, firefighter, and paramedic.

A driving force in Greg’s life has been a desire to protect and serve the environment and his community.  Born in Hawaii and growing up in San Diego, fishing and being in the ocean have been a part of Greg’s life since he was a young child.

As a teen, Greg began working on the sportfishing boats out of San Diego.  Here he developed a passion to learn more about the fish they caught offshore, which led to the pursuit of a bachelor’s degree in Fisheries Biology from Humboldt State University, and later a master’s degree from California State University San Marcos.

He was introduced to fishing by his father and later learned to flyfish through his friendship with Conway.  Greg and Conway have shared a common passion for tackling the oceans most fierce apex predator on the fly for over 30 years.

Greg worked as a marine biologist for the next 14 years, focusing on using electronic tags to track the movements of numerous fish species, off both southern and northern California.  During this time, Greg’s continued to share his love of fishing with others. In his spare time, he worked as a guide pursuing mako sharks and tuna on the flyrod.

In 2008, Greg moved with his family to Kauai and served in the Fire Department as a Northshore Lifeguard for seven years.  Here Greg had the privilege of mentoring Kauai’s youth while working with the Junior Lifeguard Program.

Another move in 2015 to northern Virginia led to a position working near Washington DC as a firefighter and paramedic. While not fishing professionally during these years, Greg continued to pursue fish with the flyrod, whether it be casting to bonefish on the flats of Anini Beach or chasing stripers on the Chesapeake Bay.

In 2021, life came full circle, and today Greg works as a fulltime captain and guide sharing his knowledge of the ocean and the wonderful pelagic sportfish found in the Pacific Ocean off San Diego.

Greg currently holds a 100 GT Master Mariner license and is a full-time guide partner with Conway pursuing mako sharks on the fly!

Our Boats

Triton 240 Light Tackle Series

Our Triton 240 Light Tackle Series bay boat has proven to be the perfect balance between fly-fishability and offshore performance. Powered by a 225 Mercury ProXS 4-stroke outboard, we use Lowrance and Raymarine electronics, and carry all required USCG safety gear.

The 240 LTS is well-configured for fly fishermen, with under-gunnel rod racks, large snag-free casting decks front and back, and plenty of dry storage. The 8’6″ beam provides lots of stability, and the cockpit is self-draining.

Caymas 26HB

The latest addition to our fleet is a Caymas 26HB. It serves as our platform for longer shark and offshore trips, as well as our primary eco tour vessel. The boat has a spacious, wide-open layout, with an enclosed head. It’s patented Stepped-Vee Ventilated Tunnel Hull delivers speed and a precise, dry, and velvet-smooth ride in various weather conditions. It’s powered by a single Mercury Verado 300 HP 4-stroke outboard and carries all required USCG safety gear.

Both boats are berthed at Dana Landing, which is in the Mission Bay area of San Diego.

In Memory of John Bowman

He was a remarkable father who allowed me the freedom to choose my own path in life. He dedicated time to moments we shared outdoors fishing, teaching me the value of patience and nature. He guided me not through strict discipline but by giving me the space to learn and grow on my own. A truly great man whose spirit continues to inspire us every day, and who will be deeply missed. Thank you for everything
